Canmore is a charming town set in the middle of a 360 degree span of snow capped mountains. The mountains hug the town from all angles, which could be why the Canmorites are just so darn lovable. See for yourself, and stay in one of the many Canmore Alberta vacation rentals. The main street in Canmore is Main Street, which is also known as 8th Street. It’s populated with a variety of boutique style shops and local businesses; everything from yoga studios, to fine artisan foods, to innovative restaurants, to homemade soaps, to delightful clothing stores. I love window shopping, and spent most of my time playing consumer. I stayed fare away from the hiking trails (that’s for my next trip), and outdoor activities, and instead basked in the friendliness of my new found entrepreneur friends. Below are my favorite shops:
Rock Mountain Soap Company: When I walked through the doors of this shop my nose was deliciously bombarded with fresh, organic smells; everything from chocolate and vanilla, to the sweetness of all the fruits of the rainbow. Rocky Mountain does a lot for and within the community. One of their mandates it to enrich the community cheer through activities. They just had their annual Rocky Mountain Soap run, where thousands of residents race through the streets of Canmore and trails of Canmore. You can walk or run, and it is exclusive for women. The main purpose of the run is to promote the comradery of the town and inspire women to pursue a healthy lifestyle.
The Studio- Canmore Hot Yoga: I stumbled into its doors completely by accident, and was greeted by Hilary- the owner and founder. Her energy was contagious and I felt very drawn to join the class. Fate brought me there on time, as class was starting in 10 minutes. They also had a deal going on- $30 for 10 consecutive classes. The room was hot and after a 90 minute detox of twisting ourselves into human pretzels I left feeling open and clear.
Mountain Mercado: This fine artisan foods and cafe venture apparently has the “best coffee in town”. I’m not a coffee drinker, so I can’t do the due diligence and offer an opinion. My partner tested it out, and agreed they do make a solid cup of brew. They also sell an eclectic variety of speciality imported meats, cheese, oils, chocolates and whatever else your beautiful brain can imagine.
